From A Very Florida Ferry-Tale Christmas (feature)
It’s a panhandle town, dozens of miles from a beach. There’s a lot of heat here, especially now in August, and this Kako was sweating. The Kako scurried, knowing exactly where to go. Thankfully, Fos Kim knew where to go, too. In a flash, the Kako disappeared in the air, transporting to its next location. Fos Kim vanished too, following it to its target: Me.

THUN
Remember when I said the Hurricanes weren’t very helpful? Well, they aren’t very friendly either. They are actually horrible people.
GALE
Like how horrible?
THUN
Like trying to hurt us, horrible. They know we’re here and they are not happy.
GALE
Why did you bring us here if you knew they weren’t going to let us in?!
THUN
Because you know Iris! We need her. We need her power!

ABOUT ME
Kayla Parker grew up in the extreme Florida humidity, which she thanks for giving her nice skin and the overwhelming desire to put on a big coat when it’s below 70 degrees. She was often called shy as a kid, but she realized she just chose her words carefully. Now, she chooses to create stories with those words. Kayla is a proud alumna of a Historically Black University (HBCU). Getting her education at a college rooted in African-American history fueled Kayla to create media that reflects her life and the colorful world around her.
Kayla is a Script Coordinator on Nickelodeon’s Monster High and a freelance writer. Kayla loves creating stories for children and preteens and has worked at Nickelodeon for 5 years. Her goal is to have her own production company and to live a philanthropic life filled with giving and spreading love, especially to communities that need it most.
